Arquitetura e educação – a escola de aprendizes artífices no Paraná

Abstract

The aim of this work is to comprehend architecture and school culture by studying the History of Education and to get to know the social, political and economic context that led to the creation of Craft-Apprentice Schools and to the changes observed at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. It involves studying the beginning of Brazilian education, the creation of Craft-Apprentice Schools and the instance of the Craft-Apprentice School in the city of Curitiba, state of Paraná. It involves researching what was the educational thought process and its guidelines which have paved the way for education in Brazil. This study is divided into three parts: the introduction, showing that the study of school institutions is something recurrent; the second part involves the history of “education in Brazil and the teaching of trades” as well as researches based on theses and available dissertations; and the third part includes the concept of school culture and the studies on school institutions. The method used is to do a bibliographic research, a systematic literature review. The goal is to comprehend Architecture and School Culture by studying the History of Education and to get to know the social, political and economic context that led to the creation of CraftApprentice Schools and to the changes observed in that period. The first idea of this work would be a documentary research, at the archives of UTFPR – Federal University of Technology – Paraná. However, due to the pandemic, access to the institution and to the documents was not possible. Thus there was the need to alter the proposed initial objectives.
