Abstract: The objective of this research was, through two studies, to carry out the cross-cultural adaptation and to obtain evidence of validity of the Child Abuse Risk Assessment Scale (CARAS) instrument. The cross-cultural adaptation of CARAS was carried out through translation and back-translation followed by analysis by Experts judges, to obtain evidence of content-based validity. To obtain evidence of validity based on the internal structure, exploratory factor analysis was performed. To check the degree of internal consistency of the questions, the KMO indexes (0.77) and Bartlett's test (p <0.05) were considered acceptable. Reliability was tested and proved satisfactory with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.79. Two items on the rabies control scale did not obtain satisfactory loads and were excluded from further analysis. The retention of the items was performed considering loads greater than 0.20 and preferably maintaining the factor initially studied. The logistic regression analysis was statistically significant (X2 = 21.861, p = 0.0001). It revealed that 24.3% of the individuals surveyed had suffered some type of violence in the last 12 months and 35% of this public had practiced some type of physical punishment on their children. Thus, the study demonstrated that the factors Anger Management and Approval of Violence are also predictors of perpetration of violence against children in the last 12 months. The results of the present study suggest the feasibility of using the instrument in the Brazilian context. However, it is emphasized the need for future investigations that seek to improve the understanding of the dimensions measured by CARAS.
