Plataformas streaming e as reconfigurações no modo de assistir tv: o caso Netflix

Abstract

In the late 1990, in association with the uses motivated by technological advances, the ways of experiencing the planned “flow” of television (WILLIAMS, 2016) undergo transformations, especially in the ways of experiencing the way of viewing television content that would become known as binge-watching (the compulsion to 'marathon' series or television programs), these reconfigured ways of watching TV start from the use of technologies such as VHS and DVD, which have made it easier for the audience to have content to be watched outside the “stream” ( to the viewer's taste, in the preferred time and device). It was especially after the launch of DVD boxes that the habit of ‘marathoning’. This dissertation aims to analyze such transformations in the way of experiencing televisual content (outside the "flow") generated by streaming platforms. The platform for the provision of audiovisual content, Netflix, is taken as an empirical object of analysis, considering it a pioneer and promoter of such cultural reconfigurations (both in its beginning as a video rental company in VHS, and with the provision of content in streaming). The hypothesis is defended that the “cultural forms” (WILLIAMS, 2016) that preceded the streaming platforms constitute a kind of “cultural preparation” for the reconfiguration of the “televisual experience” (MARQUIONI, 2016).
