Caracterização de uma amostra da população de adolescentes em situação de acolhimento institucional no município de Curitiba

Abstract

Institutional care is the reality of many children and adolescents who have been removed from the family or responsible. Due to the history that justifies the court order and forwarding to shelter, these protected adolescents are at risk for presenting behavior problems and low school performance. The aim of the present study was describe a sample of adolescent population in institutional care as a consequence of a protective measure, using mental health and school performance indicators. The sample consisted of 41 adolescents, from 12 to 17 years old, 13 of whom were female and 25 male, in a institutional care in the city of Curitiba and the metropolitan area. The adolescents were assessed using two instruments, the Youth Self Report and the School Performance Test II, as well as the characteristics of the care - number of institutional orders, time in institutional care, reason for institutionalization and infraction history. Significant correlation in bivariate of Spearman between scores in mathematics (TDE II) with anxiety problems (rho = 0.600 and p = 0.07) and attention problems (rho = 0.625 and p = 0.004), raised by the YSR. Behavioral changes were observed in population sample with physical aggression and neglect for care reasons, such as aggressive behavior and violation of rules, as well as externalizing problems, conduct problems, opposition defiant problems and posttraumatic stress problems.
