Redes sociais e cidadania na produção audiovisual – análise de três obras: Aos Teus Olhos, Nerve e Queda Livre (Episódio de Black Mirror)

Abstract

This dissertation has as general objective to analyze the contribution of cinema in the behavioral relations of citizenship, specifically regarding the use of digital social networks, under the perception of contemporary attitudes of making public and accessible the way of thinking, acting, showing off beliefs, opinions and intimate exposures, whether physical or ideological, as well as the way in which reactions to content available in a networked society are perceived. The theme is justified by the importance of audiovisual representations of behaviors that differ from those shown in decades prior to the emergence of social networks that encouraged attitudes that question the issue of citizenship. The corpus of this research has films that address the theme. The fictional film “In Your Eyes”, from 2018, addresses “virtual lynching”, a common practice on social networks that often violates the legitimate rights and duties of a citizen. The 2016 film “Nerve”, a work of fiction, reports the personal conflicts of young people who, through exhibitionist behavior, seek popularity and acceptance in their social cycle. And, finally, the episode “Fall Free”, from the third season of the series “Black Mirror” (2016) is analyzed. The specific objective of the dissertation is to analyze the characteristics of the concepts of citizenship in the current times, evaluating and listing factors displayed in the corpus of the dissertation. The hypothesis is that audiovisual has followed and seeks to question the virtual environment that potentiated pre-existing dispositions in society. The theoretical framework includes research and concepts based on the studies of Thomas Humphrey Marshall (1967), with its three elements: civil, social and political.
