Caracterização do desenvolvimento infantil entre crianças de 0 a 6 anos em situação de acolhimento e em situação familiar na cidade de Curitiba

Abstract

This study aimed to characterize a sample of children from zero to six years old, who were in institutional care in the city of Curitiba and to compare the data found with those of children who were living with their biological parents. We sought to characterize infants in terms of social, cognitive, self-care, language and motor development. The method for collecting data was the application of the Portage Inventory, composed of five areas of development. Each area of the inventory was observed for a period of 30 minutes, with the observation of the areas closed when the child presented the responses described in the inventory. The materials used for observation were previously prepared as instructed by the authors of the instrument and the commands for the answers were explained clearly, both for the caregivers, biological mothers and children observed. This study had a sample of 28 children (n = 28), with 50% of the observed population being hosted by three institutions in the city of Curitiba for the care of this population, one of the institutions was hosting the infant together with the mother biological and siblings if he has them. The other participants who represent the other half (n = 14), were living with the biological family. According to Wilcoxon Signed-Rank statistical analysis, there was no significant difference in the 8 development of children welcomed and children in family life, however the Portage graphs show that children in foster care present below average development and children living with the biological family show expected development with the age group.
