Você e teus filhos vão morrer de fome: a violência patrimonial e a permanência da mulher no relacionamento abusivo

Abstract

There are several studies on gender violence in Brazil. However, there is a tendency to emphasize the forms of physical violence and/or those that are practiced directly against women. Therefore, this study sought to analyze the production and maintenance of patrimonial/economic violence against women, based on the daily practices of women victims of violence and specialized service professionals. This qualitative study, based on social psychology and post-structuralist social constructionism, addressed patrimonial/economic violence, which can be understood as the retention, dismissal and destruction, total or partial, of the victim's assets, objects and sources of income, necessary for their needs. For this, 24 semi-structured interviews were conducted in the city of Curitiba, Paraná, 12 with specialized service professionals from an institution that assists women in situations of violence in southern Brazil and 12 with women who suffered violence in relationships. The information was interpreted from the concept of discursive practices. The results indicated that patrimonial violence contributes to the woman remaining in the abusive relationship, because the aggressor, by withhold the financial assets (salary, car, house and objects of financial and emotional value in general), makes it difficult/impossible for the woman to end the relationship. Patrimonial violence occurs in conjunction with psychological, moral, physical and sexual violence, which makes it even more difficult to break up the abusive relationship. Professionals who serve women in situations of violence are still stuck with a vision that holds women accountable, both for the violence suffered and for the resolution of the abusive relationship.
