Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Singing is the most natural and ancient way of making music. His art and science in the West is the result of centuries of study and practice of singers and singing teachers. A few years ago the singing voice and the singers has been the subject of research in the production of speech therapy knowledge, featuring a rapprochement between the two areas. However, considering the theoretical and methodological distance, and the distinct nature of human knowledge areas involved in music as art and speech therapy as a science of health and the great heterogeneity of the population of singers, the study arose from the need of investigate the issue of singing voice and interrelationship of this population with speech therapy. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the singing voice and the perception of the singers about the interrelationship of this population and the area of communication disorders: Speech Therapy. METHODS: exploratory, descriptive cross-sectional quantitative. They were sampled solo singers, choir singers, folk singers, opera singers, professionals and amateurs with no age limit of both sexes, living in Curitiba and metropolitan área. For data collection semi-structured questionnaires were applied in four areas: identification data; professional profile; Music training and speech therapists in singing voice. After the presentation of the study and signing the Informed Consent and Informed. RESULTS: regarding the sample identification data consisted of 999 singers with an average age of 40.81 years; minimum 14 years and maximum of 86 years, with standard deviation = 16.39 and 668 (66.8%). And females and 330 (33.0%) were male; residents in Curitiba 790 (79.0%) and 209 (20.9%) in the metropolitan area; with an average operating time of 14.16 years; minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 73 years; There was a predominance of females in the study population which characterizes the activity of the corner as a female. Almost half of the population has higher education not related to corner indicating that in addition to the vocal demands of their professions, are still singing in amateur choirs that commonly have no vocal problems affecting the corner. When there are health problems that affect the singing, the ent specialist or general practitioner are sought. The demand for audiologist occurred only when associated with ent, for the singers associate audiologist with the spoken voice and almost all of the respondents do not seek therapy or speech therapist for guidance on singing voice. CONCLUSIONS: Through this study we can conclude that the theoretical and methodological range of areas, the lack of knowledge among the population of singers on the speech therapists in singing voice and common sense that the speech therapist works with the spoken disorders has interfered in interrelationship between areas of singing and speech therapy.
